The Fund
Willow Glen Capital was formed in October 2010 by David H. McKinley to acquire, aggregate and operate established, privately-owned businesses within targeted industries with the intent to produce non-correlated and superior returns to those found in public markets.
The Founder
David H. McKinley is an accomplished investor, entrepreneur, and business operator who is committed to making investments, creating high-paying jobs, and leading people to produce extraordinary results.
He prides himself on fixing broken companies, rehabilitating historic buildings, and helping employees reach their potential, producing extraordinary results for their clients and, of course, themselves.
In 1991, David began his investment career as an analyst for a regional bank trust's investment department. From there, he served as vice-president investments at a national brokerage firm before leaving institutional employment to form his own independent firm.
In 2003, he founded a wealth management firm that now oversees more than $2 billion in investments and is regularly recognized as one the country's largest, fastest-growing, and best-managed independent wealth management firms caring for the concerns of both clients and employees:
INC Magazine's fastest growing privately held companies
CNBC's 100 best wealth management firms in the United States
West Virginia Chamber of Commerce Five Diamond Employer
In 2007, David founded a real estate company to acquire, develop, and lease "class A" commercial real estate. With over 100,000 square feet of commercial office space in its portfolio, they are prepared to acquire additional properties for development.
In 2009, he was appointed by the Governor of West Virginia as a trustee overseeing management of the state's more than $20 billion of pension, insurance, and endowment assets. This fund has since been recognized as one of the country's best performing public funds.
David has spent a career of more than 30 years seeking out investments, advising clients, and leading businesses. He has produced a history of experiences and accomplishments, including founding or acquiring more than a dozen privately-held businesses, which are strengths that align very well with the skills necessary to successfully manage a portfolio of companies.
The Fund's Name
David's business strategy was inspired by Johnson Camden McKinley, his great grandfather who, before his death in 1927 at age 50, had already founded or acquired dozens of businesses and created hundreds of jobs in industries varying from mining of coal and distribution of ice, to manufacturing of airplanes, furniture, and electrical signs.
Willow Glen is the name of a family estate built by Johnson Camden McKinley in the early 1920s and is now owned by a third generation of the McKinley family. To honor his great grandfather's legacy, entrepreneurship, and business successes, David chose to name the fund after their family estate.
